The UN Refugee Agenc y (UNHCR) and Goodwill Envoy Khaled Hosseini hosted live events on June 20 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millenium Stage in Washington DC, in recognition of the 42.5 million around the world who have been forced to flee their homes because of war and persecution. The event was free and open to the public and was also available online. Mr. Hosseini, who is the author of international bestsellers The Kite Runne r and A Thousand Splendid Suns , provided the opening remarks and discussed his new novel And The Mountains Echoed .
